The Uptown Swingout is a premier swing dance event featuring legendary Lindy Hop instructors from the original Savoy Ballroom era. This 3-day weekend event (August 28-30, 2026) offers 8 hours of workshops across multiple skill levels (beginner/intermediate, intermediate, advanced, masters), 2 hours of culture sessions with Lindy Hop legends, live music performances by Naomi & Her Handsome Devils band on Friday and Saturday nights, mix and match dance competitions, a Soul line dance picnic party on Sunday at Boom Island, and a Soul Party on Sunday night. The event celebrates the history and culture of authentic Lindy Hop with sessions featuring renowned legends including David Butts (coached by Mama Lu Parks), Sugar Sullivan (Original Jazz Dancers, Harvest Moon Ball Champion), Barbara Billups (former Savoy Ballroom dancer), and Sylvia Sykes (National Swing Dance Hall of Fame inductee). Workshops are held at multiple venues: Lundstrum Performing Arts (Grey Room, Annex, Black Box, Beech Room) and Grain Exchange (Trading Floor). Friday features add-on classes (6:30-8:30 pm) and dance (9:00 pm - 1:30 am) with preliminaries. Saturday and Sunday include full workshop schedules with lunch breaks, culture sessions, and evening dances.
