Philly Bal Night is Philadelphia’s hub for balboa lessons, practice, and social dancing. Philly Bal Night happens every-other Monday at the Venetian Club in Chestnut Hill from 7-10pm. SCHEDULE 7-7:45 : Topics Lesson - Join us for more advanced content that will be focused on a deep dive in a single topic. This class is open to drop-ins, and is geared towards intermediate-plus balboa dancers. Dancers should be comfortable with basic balboa shapes, techniques, and moves (out & ins, lollies, toss-outs, and multi-turns) at 180 bpm. *Those participating in our topics lesson are welcome to join our foundation series for no extra cost, or transition to the open practice space after the lesson 7:45-8:30 : Progressive Foundations Lesson Series (no balboa experience or partner required!) - In our 4-class progressive foundation series, you will learn foundational balboa material in depth. Each series is four classes (occurring every-other-week at Philly Bal Night). Due to the progressive nature of the series, this is not open to drop-ins for those who have not done balboa before. *While this class is catered to newer balboa dancers, it is suitable and will provide a lot of value to folks who have taken previous balboa classes/series, those who attend practice but want a stronger foundation, those who want to learn and practice the opposite role, and more 7-8:30 : Open Practice - Our open practice is geared towards those more self-directed learners who want a space and a good dance floor to practice their moves and techniques. This occurs simultaneously with our lessons, and the space will be split into lesson zone and practice zone. This is an entirely peer driven space to work on whatever you want! Suitable for all levels, however *there are no teachers or instruction* 8:30-10 : DJ’d Social Dance - All dance styles welcomed! Balboa strongly encouraged PRICING: $20 for lesson(s) and dance (yes, intermediate + dancers can attend both lessons for this price) $10 for open practice and dance Discount for series participants paying up front - $70 for four weeks of lessons and dances *Sliding scale is always available, we would rather dance with you than have you miss out *Entry in exchange for volunteer work (door shift) is always available GETTING THERE: The Venetian Club is accessible by car and public transit. There is a parking lot in the back, and plenty of street parking out front. For public transit, your best option is plugging it into Google Maps and selecting the public transit option.
