Darn Hot Tea - Frankie Manning Birthday Bash and Balboa Bonanza

It’s Frankie Manning’s birthday this month!! To celebrate, Tea for Two and Darn Hot Swing Dance Collective are collaborating on two full days of workshops and two socials! Saturday May 30th - Frankie’s Birthday Bash! Presented by the Tea for Two crew on Saturday 30th, join us for workshops inspired by the dancing of Frankie Manning, a history talk, and finish the day with a social with live music from the Offbeats, performances, and more! We have some incredible teachers coming in and they’re so excited to share some of Frankie’s dancing with you. Location Russian House, 118 Greeves St, Fitzroy Schedule 9.30-11:00 - Norma and Frankie’s classic moves with Jarrod Bates and Kathryn Kelly 11.15-12.45 - Rhythms and remixing Frankie’s moves with Ramona Staffeld and Joel Kohn 12.45-1.30 - Lunch break! We recommend bringing your own if possible. 1.45-2.30 - Free culture/history talk with Ramona Staffeld 2.30-4:00 - Fresh takes on the classic Frankie with Josh Varcoe and Steph Ashby Break 5:00-8:00 - Social with live music featuring the Offbeats! Grab dinner/drinks with us after at the Birmingham hotel, it’s just around the corner Sunday May 31st - Balboa Bonanza! Then on Sunday 31st, DHSDC are delighted to present a day of diving deeper into Balboa, featuring 2 x 90 minute workshops, a brief history of Bal presentation, and a 2 hour social. Location Djerring Centre, 1 Eddy Ct, Abbotsford Schedule 11:00-12.30: Refining Connection and Movement with Tara and Tim 12.30-1.30: Lunchbreak 1.30-3.00: Throwing shapes with Kris and Raif 3pm: A Brief History of Bal discussion with Kris 3.30-5.30: Social with DJs featuring Noni Healy (BYO permitted!) All welcome to join us for drinks and dinner at Stomping Ground Brewery. Our Balboa workshops are aimed at those already comfortable with the fundamentals who wish to develop their skills. We will be moving at a relatively fast pace, and will expect that attendees are familiar with up-hold and down-hold basics, out and ins, lollies, swivels and throw-outs. Tickets and Pricing We’d love you to join us for the whole weekend if you can. To this end, we're initially offering full day passes for Saturday and Sunday (with somewhat limited availability for the Sunday due to the practicalities of classes in the Djerring Centre). If you buy day passes for both the Frankie Manning Birthday Bash and Balboa Bonanza you will get an extra $10 discount (applied at checkout up to 2 persons per checkout). As space is limited we’re releasing full passes first and will release individual class and social passes soon! Saturday full pass: $80* - includes all 3 workshops and the social!
